DRINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX: SUMMER WHITE WINES

The warm weather is here and the sweltering heat is about to begin. With that in mind we have put together a collection of our favorite white wines geared towards summer. It is always our belief that the smaller, less well known wineries offer the best bang for your buck. We wholeheartedly subscribe to the phrase "Drink Outside the Box". If you know what you are doing, or you know someone like us who can pick out some gems in the wine world, then you can drink like a rockstar on a shoestring budget! Here is our latest and greatest recommendations for the season.

LA LINDA, VIOGNIER

A really unique find. A rich white wine that is not oak aged, so it will please most Chardonnay drinkers. It still keeps its light, refershing flavors of orchid and ripe apricot which jump out of the bottle. The tropical fruit on the fruit and the dry, rich finish makes this a great wine to pair up with grilled pork or chicken.

LUIGI BOSCA, SAUVIGNON BLANC
Luigi Bosca is making some great Malbecs and Cabernets, but is really wowing us with his crisp, clean Sauvignon Blanc. This wine has fresh citrus and melon aromas with a very refreshing finish akin to a nice jump into a cool pool on a hot summers day.

This is a very exciting white blend of traditional Portuguese grapes (Arinto and Fernao Pires). Think of a dry Italian Pinot Grigio with more exciting aromas. In addition to the citrus, light tropical flavors play back up in this perfect porch pounder!

COLLESTEFANO, VERDICCHIO

One of the best bottles of white wine we have enjoyed this year, no matter the price!!  A structured white with perfect acidity and rich peachey notes.  Flavors of apricots, peaches, minerals, mint, almonds and flowers all make an appearance in this soft, silky white. Enjoy!!

BERGER, GRUNER VELTLINER
Berger's GrĂ¼ner Veltliner (Groo-ner Velt-leener) is the quintessential Summer sipper! This Austrian white grape variety produces a crisp and mineral-focused wine with hints of citrus, lemon peel, lychee, and a touch of spiciness that may remind you of white pepper. Its refreshingly crisp body works great on a warm Summer day, especially when you're outdoors. The one liter bottle with the pop-top closure always makes for a great conversation piece! Meant to be drank fresh with friends and friendly.

DOCIL, VINHO VERDE
A perfect porch sipper! Light and refreshing with flavors of citrus and white flowers on the finish. A lot more flavorful than most Vinho Verdes! Another great alternative to boring old Pinot Grigio.

DOMANIE DE PAJOT, WHITE BLEND
From the Cotes de Gascogne, just south of Bordeaux, this is made from the four main regional varieties from 100% Organic Vineyards: Colombard, Ugni-Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gros-Manseng. Crisp, dry, and bright, with flavors of citrus, melon, and herb, this refreshing white wine is one to snap up by the case and keep on hand all summer long!

CALEA, FIANO

This 100% Sicilian wine is my favorite recommendation when someone wants something different than Pinot Grigio. Fiano is both very juicy and very food friendly. Light citrus aromas run throughout this wine with a great hazelnut and apricot flavors that make it truly delicious!

PICQ, CHABLIS

A classic French white that is often overlooked, but it remains a classic for a good reason. Filled with complex, exotic aromas of grapefruit, mango, sweet peppers, anise and spices. It has a light salinty in the mouth with a crisp finish. The long, refined finish really perks up the taste buds.
